Is strong authentication compulsory for every payment?

Payments of small amounts and to known service providers may use a simple customer authentication procedure.

Relaxed procedures are allowed for the following payments:

  • payments of small amounts—so-called micropayments—up to 30 Euro;
  • payments to trusted recipients included in the white list of confirmed payments;
  • transactions between two accounts belonging to the same customer in the same bank;
  • payments within the same bank, if permitted by the bank’s risk assessment.

The aforementioned exceptions are determined by each bank individually.
